MultiMedia Diary 3 - The Full Story of Telemark

Image
After some researching i found some usable information on the story behind the Telemark Operations. Here's the full story taken from http://www.reference.com/browse/wiki/Norwegian_heavy_water_sabotage "Operations Freshman and Grouse Destruction of the plant was mounted by the Combined Operations command in November 1942 . The plan consisted of two operations: the first would drop a number of Norwegian locals into the area as an advance force, and once in place a party of British engineers would be landed by glider to attack the plant itself. On 19 October 1942 , a four man team of Special Operations Executive (SOE) trained Norwegian commandos parachuted into Norway. From their drop point in the wilderness they had to ski a long distance to the plant, so considerable time was given to complete this part of the mission, known as Operation Grouse . This plan, unlike those which did not succeed before, included the team studying and memorising blueprints. Once the Norwegian

"I'm a Mac, I'm a Pc" Videos

I think these videos are great. The classic ones (the ones made my apple) are not very honest and are just market spin. These I think are more true to life. Judge for yourself and you'll see what I mean. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0gRgls2eYc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_vV5mZ8Ox8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BUOXVI7HeI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxQS_3A7_Fc

MultiMedia Diary 2 - The Story

So I've decided to do a film trailer. Main reason for this is because of the lack of time I have to develop a decent enough game. So my film trailer is going to be machinima using Call Of Duty 2. The story is going to be the heroes of Telemark. For those that don't know Telemark is an area in Norway where the Nazi's during World War II produced heavy water. Heavy water of course can be used to create atomic weapons and this had to be stopped. Norwegian resistance fighters and British soldiers came together to sabotage the germans efforts at producing heavy water and succeeded. Although it was not an easy battle and took months to accomplish the eventual sinking of a ferry carrying the final amount of heavy water needed for the the Nazi's to make there first atomic weapon was sunk. YEH! Going to be lots of big panoramic scenes with explosions!

How To Capture Audio/Video Content From A Console

Image
I posted this on my Uni's website and thought it was worth posting here as well. This howto concentrates on doing this with an xbox 360 using a composite connection. It can also be done with a S-Video connection but won't be covered. Composite: S-Video Step 1: You will need to have a video capture card or a graphics card with a built in VIVO (Video-In Video Out) system or a similar system. My graphics card (GeForce 4 4200) has a built in VIVO connection and came with a cable which allows the connection of a composite video connection (The yellow connector in the left picture above) or a S-Video connection (Pictured on the right). I've seen other graphics cards just come with a Composite Video-In connection, this will work just the same. Step 2: The VIVO system does not handle sound and neither will any graphics cards. The other two connectors on the composite connection (red and white connections above) are the left and right audio. You will need a cable which takes two co

MultiMedia Diary 1 - Xbox 360 Capture Text

This is the first entry of my MultiMedia Design module i'm doing at Uni. It demonstrates a quick effort using Window Movie maker to produce a video. Nothing exciting... sorry http://www.youtube.com/v/DLu_ZnEAFpM

Xbox 360 top of the table

Since most of my mates love the Wii or the PS3 I thought it would be a good idea to provide some REAL information. Here a few articles worth reading: "I just got off the plane from CES, and got an email with the December NPD data. It looks like the Xbox 360 outsold the PS3 and the Wii combined last month. In addition Xbox 360 grabbed 51% market share in the United States for December 2006. I also found out that Gears has sold 3–million copies. I also saw some new Xbox Live data: we have 5 million active members, two-million messages crossing the network each day, and we have three-billion game play hours logged to date." http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/01/11/december-npd-data-is-in.aspx "id Software's John Carmack says that he isn't sure Sony will come out on top in the next generation." http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=71686 I think the reason why Dev's like the 360 better is simply because it's easier to develop on because

Ubuntu has an interesting bug

While reading up on the new alpha release of Ubuntu Feisty Fawn Herd 2, I came across this little bug entry in their database: "Microsoft has a majority market share in the new desktop PC marketplace. This is a bug, which Ubuntu is designed to fix Microsoft has a majority market share | Non-free software is holding back innovation in the IT industry, restricting access to IT to a small part of the world's population and limiting the ability of software developers to reach their full potential, globally. This bug is widely evident in the PC industry. Steps to repeat: 1. Visit a local PC store. What happens: 2. Observe that a majority of PC's for sale have non-free software pre-installed 3. Observe very few PC's with Ubuntu and free software pre-installed What should happen: 1. A majority of the PC's for sale should include only free software like Ubuntu 2. Ubuntu should be marketed in a way such that its amazing features and benefits would be appa

Your Weapon of Choice...

This post is not about comparing operating systems or which is best. However since the final release of Vista, there has been a huge amount of comparison articles on the web. Vista appears to be the benchmark for operating systems since we (the general Microsoft hating public) expect it to be the leading edge in operating systems and every other operating system has to be similar or better. Since we know that Vista is not the leading operating system available and for arguments sake for the moment I'm not saying anything about what I think. However here is an interesting article which talks about Ubuntu Edgy Eft, OpenSuse 10.2 and Vista "Two of the best all-around Linux distributions to emerge from this process are OpenSUSE 10.2 and Ubuntu 6.10, both of which bundle together the best of what open source has to offer into operating systems that merit consideration for desktop and (some) server workloads." http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,2082715,00.asp

Going to try and make a regular screenshot update of my desktop as desktop modding is a hobby of mine. Will give sources of artwork if requested. This is of course my Ubuntu Edgy Eft system running Gnome and Beryl.
