Imagine my surprise when after completely giving up on streaming video's/music/photos to my Samsung TV (due to the Windows only software supplied with the TV being unreliable and slow) that Vuze, the torrent client, suddenly supports this very function. Turns out that the developers actually have a similar model in there office and added support for it just because :-) Excellent stuff guys! And what is even better about this is the support for doing this from Mac OS X and Linux too :-) :-). I've tested this on Leapord and Snow Leapord for the Mac as well as Ubuntu Lucid Lynx. All work perfectly although the Device menu is missing from Vuze on Ubuntu. The developers have said this is due to it not being supported yet, which is fair enough. I think by default all files are shared anyway... So another year of worldy wares have collected themselves inside of my cupboards, shelves... and some have even re-surfaced after being lost inside of boxes and cases long ago. Naturallly, being a collector (my friends say hoarder) of gadgets, i felt it was time to say good bye to some of the older ones and pass them on to new owners via the cloud. Ok... since it seems #Google indexes this blog more often than my blog below i'm moving it back! So as a result i've given it a overhaul with a nice theme I found on btemplates.com. The original needed some tweaks and i've added some short cuts above to other social sites I use. So to get this blog rolling again, i've decided to continue one of the previous series of posts that followed the ever evolving task of customizing a Ubuntu desktop. Lots has changed since my previous posts including the applications used. Now using Gnome-Do for the dock, Screenlets for the widgets/gadgets and Chrome as my browser. So it's been a while since I last posted anything here so i thought it would probably be a good idea in case blogger do a hotmail on me and throw away my account! Well my exams are over (thank god!) and i'm mostly working on finishing my dissertation which got good peer reviews at my last deliverable so everything is on track. Apart from that I've been doing alot on my Linux system. Firstly the biggest change has been my move from Ubuntu Edgy Eft to Ubuntu Fiesty Fawn which was a pretty good experience considering my previous moves from large releases with openSuse and Fedora Core. Lots of new goodies to play with including built in Desktop Effects via compiz and a working network manager plus built in dialogues for non-free codecs and drivers. There are lots of other notable upgrades most of which i've probably completely missed, some others include much better networking with windows clients via SMB and Avahi and Visualizations in Rhythmbox.
